"On Beach Time" Clock

Summer's here.
Who wants to spend time looking at a clock?
We do, if it's this one: ;)

Faux Chandelier for the Lanai

I have a thing for lampshades.
Just cannot toss one if it's got good bones.
Happy is the day when one gets refabbed and used again...like this one:

Replacement Cabinet

Once upon a time a family bought a house.
A house that had good bones but needed updating.
A house that hadn't been touched since the early 80's.
This family had mixed opinions.
Momma said "It'll be fun to redo it to just our style."
Daddy said "We're gonna be broke, kids."
Momma said "Nonsense, we'll be done in two years flat."
Daddy said "We're gonna be broke for a long time, kids."
Well...

Live With What You Love

For the longest time we had "placemats of the month" on our table.
Custom made just for us.
Cute as pie.
But....it got boring after a couple years.
Time to change it up.
To date, the most recent addition to the table top is this runner:

Painting Mason Jars

Have y'all seen these beauties yet?
They're all over Etsy and Pinterest these days.
As usual, I live in my own little world and am one of the last to know...
....BUT....

First Milk Paint Project

Okay, so you know what it’s like to find the most awesomest piece of (insert your find here) ever. Well at least the most awesomest piece ever for this week.  ;)
My latest score was this beauty. Can y’all just hear the cat-calls?

A Different Kind of DIY

Yes, it’s been awhile between posts. The past month has been funky, sad. Wasn’t even sure if I would be back to the blog, or anything else I love doing for that matter. Let me explain…a month ago my Momma passed away. She had cancer. The week before she passed I was able to make the trip back home to see her in the hospital. There have been so many different emotions being processed in my world since then and it all hit home when  I had closure by going back to help Daddy clean out some things and bring home some family heirloom pieces. It was surreal to be in my childhood home without her. The same week our youngest daughter finished up high school…and that’s when it hit the hardest that Momma is really gone. She was the first one I wanted to call. That was week before last.

From Drab to Fab

Recently my husband purchased a bucket at a yard sale for me.
Both he and I have a thing for galvanized buckets...old or new.
It wasn't quite my style but for the price he knew it wasn't a bad investment.
Yes, that is the price tag:

License Plate Decor

Today's post is short little ditty to explain why I use the license plates I do in our home decor.
Beside the fact I just plain like 'em, they have a meaning unique to us.
This frame holds plates that correspond with our birth places/years.
Still on the hunt for the proper plate for my oldest daughter to add to this.

Plan B

Remember yesterday's goal was to repaint the scripture by the birdhouse?
(Scroll down and you'll see the pic of the scripture in the frame.)
Didn't happen.
So today it was getting done no-matter-what!
I pulled up the pic of the scripture...
Got out my Cricut...
Spent over an hour cutting my stencil...
Only to discover this when I began placement on the wall...

Oh the Difference a Color Makes

A few weeks back I mentioned on my TLT FB page that I was beginning to obsess about repainting the main body of our home.
The original plan was to wait until summer, when the a/c is on to help the paint dry quicker.
My husband must have gotten reeeeelly tired of hearing me talk about it because he bought me this:

I am finally ready to reveal what the first batch of DIY Stain (post here) went to create.
Let me take you on a picture journey of the process...

Make It Personal

Yesterday I did a super quick project to personalize an ordinary object.
Saturday we found a coffee table my husband has been wanting.

The paddles were missing and the previous owner had used this outside so it is very weathered.
Both minor *issues* make it perfect for us!
Not much in our home or my husband's apartment is bright, shiny, or "perfect."

To finish making it just right for us, I did a quick stenciling project.
All boats are numbered...so...a personalized number it is...

Project Gone Wonky

Blogland.
The DIY Queen’s domain.
Blog after blog parades one fantastic project after another.
It’s reminiscent of REM’s “Shiny Happy People.”  We smile, skip, and happily do the show-and-tell thing. Our purpose is to inspire you, Dear Reader, to get to your own project. After-all, we did this thing in just three e-a-s-y steps in ten minutes on a Sunday afternoon just to fill in our spare time and are more than happy to tell you how as we skip with delight around our new creation.

Repurposed Sign

This homemade sign had been sitting in my stash.
Somebody, somewhere had loved it...but the love was gone.
She sat in the hot sun for hours at a yard sale until I came to rescue her.
And then she sat in my air conditioned house for...well...let's not discuss that part of this story...;)

My Favorite Wood Stain

Last week on FB I mentioned going to buy stain.
This rarely ever happens. Really. A quart of my favorite "dark walnut" lasts for years and years and years.
How? You ask...because I regularly make my own out of these simple ingredients:
